The X106 Tractor, with its automatic transmission and powerful overhead-valve engine, is a great value. It's Mower deck is 42 Edge (107cm / 42in) that is ready to side discharge, bag, or mulch. A large variety of equipment is available for handling snow and doing other lawn-care chores.
Powerful engine features full-pressure lubrication for dependability and long life
A 500-cc (30.5-cu in.) engine is used in the X106 and X126. It produces 10.7 kW (14.3 hp) of power at 3150 rpm.
The engine has the size and features to handle tough mulching, mowing, and bagging conditions:
No-tools oil-drain valve is easy to access when changing the engine oil.
The fuel tank gauge allows the operator to tell how much fuel is in the tank without leaving the seat:
Fuel tank:
Frame made of full-length welded steel for reliability
The solid, one-piece frame is constructed of 12-gauge, 2.66-mm (0.105-in.) steel:
The front axle is constructed of solid cast iron that will not bend:
The hood is made of injection-molded, UV-resistant JD Loy polymer:
Automatic transmission makes it easy to choose the exact travel speed for each operating condition
The automatic transmission allows the operator to easily choose the desired forward or reverse travel speed, simply by depressing a single foot pedal; this is similar to the way the driver of an automobile with automatic transmission changes speed when depressing the accelerator.
Whether a slow speed for trimming or faster speed for open-area mowing is desired, the operator can easily adjust by how far the foot pedal is depressed.
With the brake pedal depressed and the forward/reverse lever in the center park or the forward position, the engine can be started. Once the engine is started, it is not necessary to use the brake pedal when selecting forward or reverse or when changing direction of travel. Simply move the forward/reverse lever to select travel direction, then press the automatic foot pedal to choose from an infinite number of travel speeds.
With the automatic speed control pedal, the operator can choose from an infinite number of speeds forward or reverse:
Operator station designed for comfortable operation
The operator station is designed for operator comfort and easy operation:
Controls are easy to see and use:
Wide footrest areas with non-slip, anti-vibration floor mats are provided for operator comfort and safety.
Operator seat can be easily adjusted forward or backward while on the seat, with seat travel of 140 mm (5.5 in.) and 10 different positions.
Seat can be tilted forward for protection from the weather and to provide easy access to the fuel tank. Seat springs give a smoother ride.
A beverage holder is located on the right fender for operator convenience.
Controls are easy to find and convenient to use
The contoured dash is functional and attractive:
A spring-assisted, low-effort lift lever simplifies setting and adjusting the mower cut height:
A beverage holder and forward/reverse lever are located on the right fender for operator convenience.
The forward/reverse lever of the continuously variable transmission (CVT) is on the right-hand side and controls direction. Movement is engaged and speed is controlled with the singe drive pedal located on the right-hand side.
The mower deck is engaged with the yellow lever on the dashboard. Its placement on the right side leaves the left entry side of the tractor unobstructed.
The parking brake control is conveniently located for easy access. It holds the brake pedal securely in the locked position.
Serviceability is convenient with easy-open hood
The one-piece hood opens easily to permit checking and servicing the engine:
The engine fuel and oil filters, the oil check/fill tube, and the oil drain tube are exposed for serviceability when the hood is opened.
The seat tilts up to protect it from the weather and for adding fuel.
Reverse implement option (RIO)
Mowing while backing up is strongly discouraged.
The operator who deems it necessary to keep the mower (or other implement) engaged while backing up should first bring the tractor to a stop and look behind the tractor to be sure there are no bystanders. Then actuate (push in) the RIO button. The RIO button must be held down in the reverse implement position as the shift lever is moved into reverse (reverse foot pedal is depressed on models with a hydrostatic transmission).
The operator may then release the button and the mower will continue to operate while backing up and also when resuming forward operation. This procedure must be repeated the next time the operator chooses to keep the mower engaged while backing up. If the mower power take-off (PTO) is engaged and the operator shifts into reverse or depresses the reverse pedal prior to pressing the RIO button, ignition to the engine will be shut off. The engine will stop unless the operator either pushes on the RIO switch or shifts out of reverse.
If the engine does stop, the operator must return the mower engagement (PTO) switch or lever to the off position, depress the brake pedal, and then turn the ignition switch to restart the engine.
CargO Mount™ system makes installation of rear bagger easy
The rear CargO Mount system provides convenient and easy installation of the rear bagger.
107-cm (42-in.) Edge™ cutting system gives superior performance
The Edge cutting system has been trademarked to emphasize the advantages of the John Deere mower deck designs. They give the mower superior convenience, performance, and reliability.
The 107-cm (42-in.) two-spindle, three-in-one mower is constructed of 13-gauge, 2.3-mm (0.09-in.) steel for long life:
Additional features for the 107-cm (42-in.) mower deck include:
A wash port is provided to make cleaning the underside of the mower deck easy:
The StarLock blade design keeps the blade bolt at the correct torque for easy removal.
Optional blades are available for difficult mulching or bagging conditions.
Spring-assisted, low-effort lift lever simplifies setting and adjusting the mower cut height:

125-cm (49-in.) Front Blade - SAB00724
This durable blade serves as a perfect solution for snow removal and other materials.
It is very easy to mount on the tractor which facilitates all year-round usage through the different seasons. To use it, the operator simply pushes a lever from the seat and the blade lowers to the ground. When the task is complete, pulling back the lever will raise it.
The working angle can be changed with a lever from the tractor. This will be especially appreciated in tighter areas when frequently changing direction between left and right.
The blade is wider than the tractor to ensure the tractor has good traction on the cleared path and does not compact snow. Even with an angled blade, the operator can clean up to the edge of walls and other obstacles for best results.
Demonstration of the unique safety joint: the tractor is slowed down after the impact yet can move enough to reduce the shock on the operator. The blade moves away from the obstacle by moving up.
Function of a traditional blade (upper line) and the unique safety joint (lower line):
Many front blades available in the market tilt around a pivoting point close to the ground (see 1.1). When potentially contacting an obstacle (see 1.2), the pivoting blade can barely move at all, increasing impact on the blade, tractor, and operator even more (1.3).
The unique joint solution of this blade is smarter by pivoting around a higher spot (2.1). It avoids a harsh impact as the colliding blade edge moves clearly to the rear (2.2), allowing the tractor to slow down more smoothly. Also, the blade will move up if too much snow is present – and even continues to clear off the snow. Once the hard object is overcome, the spring pushes the blade back to the original position. This all results in more comfort of the operator, better uptime of the blade and tractor together with cost effective snow removal without backing up and rehitting the obstacle attempting to clear snow on it.
To attach the blade to the tractor, simply raise it from ground, hook it into the quick-hitch, and lock it. Although it can stay on, taking the mower deck off and using rear wheel weights on the tractor is recommended. For snow applications, snow chains are suggested. Both the weights and the chains are available through John Deere Parts.
A John Deere dealer can identify which models are compatible with this broom and order the required mounting hardware.
The following chart shows the available options for John Deere Riding Lawn Equipment and suggests which solution might be the best in each case. The entire description above applies to the blade with 125-cm (49-in.) quick-hitch. If the tractor is equipped with driveline and corresponding quick-hitch, a tractor with this quick-hitch can carry either the blade or the 120-cm (47-in.) broom.

120-cm (47-in.) Rotary Broom - SAB00726
This broom serves as perfect solution for snow and dirt removal. It is very easy to mount and comes with a debris catcher box and multipurpose brush.
To engage, the operator simply pushes a lever from the seat and the broom lowers to the ground while starting to spin. When the job is complete, pulling back the lever will stop the broom and raise it from ground.
From the tractor, the working angle can be changed just by pulling or pushing the (left) lever. This is particularly beneficial in tighter areas when the frequency of changing between working to left and right is higher.
Every broom is shipped with a debris catcher for when collection is required. An upper and a lower rubber lip minimize dust accumulation. To empty, tilt in from its mounted position or take it off and push on its wheels to empty the debris elsewhere.
To achieve optimal performance, the ground pressure can be increased by simply turning a knob on top of the broom. Lowering ground pressure will reduce friction and increase lifetime of the broom.
The wide broom and the central drive system clean to the very edge of walls and other obstacles. Cleaning uneven surfaces is easy and efficient; the brush itself is mounted with an oscillating bearing to compensate undulations.
The air-filled caster wheel supports the broom and also allows easy moving and storing of the broom when not in use. The rubber boot over the wheel’s king pin protects it from thrown up dirt.
To attach the broom to the tractor, simply raise it from ground, hook it into the quick-hitch, and lock by pushing the handle down. Using rear wheel weights on the tractor is recommended. For snow applications, snow chains are suggested. In some conditions it may be recommended to take off the mower deck to keep enough clearance between tire chains and deck. Both the weights and the chains are available through John Deere Parts.
A John Deere dealer can identify which models are compatible with this broom and order the required mounting hardware.
The following chart shows available options for the John Deere Riding Lawn Equipment and suggests which solution might be the best in each case. The entire description above applies to the broom with quick-hitch 120 cm (47 in.). The 125-cm (49-in.) blade can be mounted on the same hitch as the broom and might be an excellent response to stronger snowfall.
